Counseling and Psychotherapy



Counseling and psychotherapy are based on theories of counseling and psychology. It uses the way of conversation and activities to facilitate the client to express and release thoughts and emotions that are stagnated in mind, to understand the core issue of the presenting problem, to find out the very unique and personal way of resolution, and to psychicly grow from its process. The therapist is the client's trustful companion who go through the therapeutic journey with the client, give adequate encouragement, nonjudgement, acceptance, attention and empathy to the client, and facilitate the client to cope with the problem and grow in a containing, secure, calm, and listening environment. 

Counseling and psychotherapy are different mainly in terms of their duration of treatment.

Counseling often focuses on helping the client to resolve the problem that s/he is facing. It is goal-oriented. And when the problem is adequately resolved, the treatment is done. Therefore, the duration is relatively shorter and the session is relatively lesser.

Psychotherapy does not only focus on dealing with the client's facing issues, but also places emphasis on the client's holistic growth (physically, mentally, spiritually, and personally). It often requires time and effort to get in touch with the client's forgotten childhood, early relationship, unconscious motives, internal conflict, personality's less or undeveloped potentials,  and the meaning of life. Hence, psychotherapy is rather long-term, yet the change within the person can be more holistic and integrated. 


The type of counseling and psychotherapy I provide is psychodynamic-based, which helps children, teenagers, and adults facing mental, emotional, psychological, developmental, existential, and interpersonal problems.
